.NET Design Patterns – A Fresh Look

.NET Design Patterns…. yes, there are several books and resources written on this topic. When it comes to Software Development, Design Patterns promotes constancy across the code base and allows us to develop better maintainable software. There are many Design Patterns in Software Development. Some of these patterns are very popular. It is almost true to say that most patterns can be embraced irrespective of the programming language we choose. Based on the type of application, we may use one or more Design Patterns. Sometimes we may mix and match Design Patterns as well. It is very important to consider that we primarily want to use these patterns as effective communication tools. This may not be obvious at this stage. However during this article, we will look at how Design Patterns are utilised in various applications.

The Whens and Whys for PHP Design Patterns

This article covers some of the various Agile Design Patterns, documented in Robert C. Martin's books. These patterns are modern adaptations of the original design patterns defined and documented by The Gang of Four in 1994. Martin's patterns present a much more recent take on the GoF's patterns, and they work better with modern programming techniques and problems. In fact, about 15% of the original patterns were replaced with newer patterns, and the remaining patterns were slightly modernized.

Design Patterns Part 1 - The Strategy Pattern

A series of articles exploring Design Patterns and creating useful examples in C#, putting the pattern into practice. This series is aimed at the programmer with good object-oriented knowledge and a curiosity of Design Patterns, but no prior knowledge of these is assumed. This week, we look at how to separate operations from their algorithms and how to vary the algorithm easily, even at runtime!

Design Patterns 2 of 3 - Structural Design Patterns

This is the second article about design patterns. In the first article I have discussed about creational design patters and now I will describe another set of patterns called Structural design patterns.

In software engineering, structural design patterns are design patterns that ease the design by identifying a simple way to realize relationships between entities.

Design Patterns 3 of 3 - Behavioral Design Patterns

This is the third (and the last) article about design patterns. In the first article of this series I have discussed about creational design patters. The second article was about structural design patterns and now I will describe another set of patterns called Behavioral design patterns.

A behavioral pattern explains how objects interact. It describes how different objects and classes send messages to each other to make things happen and how the steps of a task are divided among different objects. Where creational patterns mostly describe a moment of time (the instant of creation), and structural patterns describe a more or less static structure, behavioral patterns describe a process or a flow
