Create a jQuery Plugin to Sort and Paginate a Table

In a previous article Using jQuery to Sort and Paginate a Table , we saw how on a table with hundreds of rows, we could use sorting and pagination to display a small subset of that data, at a given point of time. The navigation links would then allow users to move through the other subsets of data. With our newly acquired plugin knowledge gained in Authoring your First jQuery Plugin and Create a jQuery Plugin to display a Running Counter, let's build a sorting and pagination plugin for ourselves. Just as in our Authoring your First jQuery Plugin article, we will once again look up to the jQuery Boilerplate plugin to create our plugin. I strongly recommend you to read that article before you proceed further. Create a new file 'SortandPaginateTablePlugin.html'. Also create separate folders called 'scripts' and 'css' on the root. The css used in this article can be downloaded from the source code mentioned at the end of this article.

User Authentication in a jQuery Mobile and PhoneGap Application

This article shows you how to implement user authentication in a jQuery Mobile and PhoneGap application. We will use the Meeting Room Booking app as the sample application for this tutorial. jQuery More/Less Text

It was recently asked by a client to add a functionality that only displays the first few lines of a block of content with a "More" link at the bottom which when clicked, would expand the content to show fully. This can easily be done with just a little bit of jQuery and CSS. If a user doesn't have JavaScript enabled, the page will just display the content expanded and hide the More/Less buttons.

Web Development - Building Responsive Web Sites with Bootstrap

In the past, a Web site that supported mobile and desktop required different code bases. Today, however, there are UI frameworks that allow a site's Web pages to support mobile, tablet, desktop and even large-screen desktops—all with a single code base. Though these tools aren't a panacea for mobile Web developers, they can significantly ease the development process. Still, thought must be given to determine if one is right for your site.

Componentizing the Web

This is the story about a project of mine. A big one. A mixture between PHP and Node.js. It's a single page application from one point of view and an SEO optimized website from another. Tons of JavaScript, CSS and HTML was written. In a single word, a spaghetti nightmare for any developer. There were falls and rises. Producing and solving bugs. Fighting with the latest technologies and ending up with a wonderfully simple library, which is the topic of this article.

Developing a Password Strength Plugin with jQuery

Generally, most uses are non-technical, and have limited knowledge about how authentication works. Even for the technical users, it's difficult to figure out which passwords are strong and which are easily breakable. For example, a simple increase in password length does not necessarily make it harder to break. A password strength meter calculates the strength of a user entered password. Generally, its displayed as strength levels like very weak, weak, good, strong, etc. The meter is updated on each user input, so the calculation should occur as a onkeypress or onkeyup event handler. When a user attempts to create a new account, weak passwords can be detected and rejected, improving overall site security.

Building Interfaces with Backbone and jQuery UI

For my senior design project, I recently had to build a fairly complex client-side interface for professors to create and modify a course plan. The professors wanted to have drag-and-drop functionality so they could, for example, quickly drag a particular lecture/quiz/homework to a different date on the schedule when they needed something to change. I'd worked a bit with Backbone previously, and it seemed like an obvious choice given the layers of data I'd need to work with. For drag-and-drop functionality, I found jQuery UI would work nicely, as it exposes droppable and draggable methods that make it easy to create draggable elements and "lander" elements to collect them. However, I had to hammer out a number of implementation details, so I decided to create a tutorial for other people handling the same problem.

Building a To-Do List with jQuery and Local Storage

We all have those days when we have a lot of things to accomplish, but no way to know if we will complete all of them. In these situations, a to-do list is extremely helpful. There are great mobile apps, online tools, and even WordPress plugins which perform this task, but have you ever wondered how long it would take to create one by yourself? In this tutorial, we will create a basic to-do list. Tasks will fall into one of three categories – pending, in progress, and completed. Our application will allow new tasks to be created, which go into the pending category by default. Tasks can easily be moved between categories using drag and drop technology. Of course, tasks can also be deleted.
