Create a Puzzle Game for Android with the Dolby Audio API

In today's crowded mobile market, it's important to make your applications as compelling as they can possibly be. Enhancing an application's audial experience can be as appealing to the user as having a stunning user interface. The sound created by an application is a form of interaction between the user and the application that is all too often overlooked. However, this means that offering a great audial experience can help your application stand out from the crowd. Dolby Digital Plus is an advanced audio codec that can be used in mobile applications using Dolby's easy-to-use Audio API. Dolby has made its API available for several platforms, including Android and Kindle Fire. In this tutorial, we will look at the Android implementation of the API. The Dolby Audio API for Android is compatible with a wide range of Android devices. This means that your Android applications and games can enjoy high-fidelity, immersive audio with only a few minutes of work integrating Dolby's Audio API. Let's explore what it takes to integrate the API by creating a puzzle game.

Beyond the Basics of JSONModel

In my previous article, you learned about the basics of JSONModel. You saw how easy it is to work with JSON using JSONModel and how it does a lot for you behind the scenes, such as data validation and conversion. In this tutorial, you will create a more complex application and you will learn about a number of features that bring even more power to your model classes. By the end of this article, you'll have created a Flickr browser for iOS. The application will talk to Flickr's JSON API and display a collection of photos I uploaded to Flickr for this tutorial.

Using Local Database in Windows Phone Apps

In my previous posts, we looked at how to store data in Windows Phone Apps using Local Storage and Isolated Storage. In this post we will take a look at how to create a Local Database for storing data of our Windows Phone app. Database are great storage option when your app want to store some relational data. The database gets created into the local app folder and is only accessible to the same application. We will be using the LINQ to SQL assembly and mainly the classes present in the System.Data.Linq and System.Data.Linq.Mapping namespace to create our database schema and perform CRUD operations on it. In this demo, we will create a sample application that will store Students Information in the database. For each student, we will also store the courses that the student has taken. Lets get our hands dirty. Open Visual Studio –> New Project –> Windows Phone Blank App and name the application "LocalDatabaseWPApp".

Telerik Data Access - Handling Connectivity Issues by Using a Backup Storage (Part 1)

In a real world scenario the loss of connection to the primary database server due to various reasons is a danger that your application may need to handle. Telerik Data Access can help you do that. Today we start a series of blog posts which will expand upon the concepts shown in our previous post to show you how to implement a SmartContext class which can help you with such scenario. The concept behind the SmartContext class is that it should allow you to work with the database in a manner very similar to how a normal instance of your model`s context would. Additionally it will have logic to automatically cache data in a backup storage and seamlessly switch to using this backup storage in case the connection to the primary database server is lost. In the first part of this series we will see how to persist the changes made by CRUD operations in a backup storage so that they would be readily available in case of a connection failure.

How to keep track of Miscellaneous files efficiently in Visual Studio

One of the easies and quickest way to keep track of several external files is by using the "Miscellaneous Files" in Visual Studio. When we develop applications in Visual Studio most of the time we do refer several external files. This files may not be required as a part of source code or solution items, but we referred them frequently for some additional purposes. For an example, project diagrams, other project files or code analysis reports etc. In sort, those files you want to use temporarily, but may wanted to refer in between during the development phase.

Living Without Storyboards: Make a Clock with Sprite Kit

Sprite Kit — it's not just for games anymore. Sprite Kit is of course meant to write games, a full 2-d game engine waiting for use inside Xcode and iOS7. While simulating buttons writing SlippyFlippyPenguin, I began to realize there's a lot more here that could be applied to a general UI. I've often tried to apply animations to elements on the storyboard ending up with flicker. A true built-in game cycle does much for removing flicker. Sprite Kit can create beautiful animated user interfaces. This post series will make a basic clock app using Sprite Kit as a demonstration.

How to display more than one property in editable Telerik ComboBox for WPF/Silverlight

As a RadComboBox user you probably are already aware of the fact that it provides two edit modes out of the box – along with the default non-editable mode there is an editable one. The editable mode allows the user to get the desired item by typing, however it also ignores the SelectionBoxTemplate which gives you the ability to display the selected item differently. In many scenarios you might need to use both - the editable functionality and the possibility to modify the appearance of the selected item in order to visualize two or more properties of the selected custom object. This article will demonstrate how this scenario can be easily achieved by modifying the EditableTemplate of RadComboBox.
